UK Student Visa Overview

The Student Route (formerly Tier 4) visa allows international students to study at a UK educational institution. You can apply up to 6 months before your course starts.

Key Requirements

1. Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS): Your UK university will issue a CAS once you accept your offer and pay any required deposits. The CAS contains a unique reference number needed for your visa application.

2. English Language Requirement: You need an IELTS UKVI score of at least Band 5.5-6.5 depending on your course level. Some universities accept higher IELTS Academic scores for admission but you may still need IELTS UKVI for the visa.

3. Financial Requirements: You must show you have enough money to pay for your course fees and living costs. For courses in London: £1,334/month for up to 9 months. Outside London: £1,023/month for up to 9 months. Funds must be held for 28 consecutive days.

4. TB Test: Pakistani applicants must have a tuberculosis test from an approved clinic before applying.

5. Academic Documents: Original transcripts, degree certificates, and other academic records.

Application Process

1. Apply and receive offer from a UK university
2. Accept offer and receive CAS
3. Complete the online visa application form
4. Pay the visa fee and Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS)
5. Book and attend biometric appointment at VFS Global
6. Submit supporting documents
7. Attend credibility interview (if selected)
8. Receive visa decision (usually within 3-6 weeks)

The Graduate Route - Post-Study Work

One of the biggest advantages of studying in the UK is the Graduate Route visa. After completing your degree, you can stay in the UK for:
- 2 years for Bachelor's and Master's graduates
- 3 years for PhD graduates

This gives you time to find employment and potentially switch to a Skilled Worker visa.
